Fox Contributor Erickson: Drowned Syrian Boy Was Obama’s Fault

No doubt you have seen the heartbreaking images of refugees fleeing Syria, Macedonia and other war-torn countries. A picture of a drowned boy being carried out of the sea has gone viral.

Well, now we know whose fault it is: President Obama, of course! Conservatives blame everything on Obama. Even Hurricane Katrina, which wrecked the Gulf Coast three years before he took office. Don’t confuse them with facts, they know that Obama is a socialist-Marxist-communist-pinko-Muslin-Kenyan-anti-Christ. And everything IS his fault, dammit!

Erick Erickson published an op-ed on Fox News‘ website on Friday in which he laid the blame for the drowning of the Syrian child who washed up on a Turkish beach at President Obama’s feet. Erickson’s “logic” goes like this: Obama took our troops out of Iraq, which caused ISIS, which caused the boy’s family to flee Syria. Behold the pretzel logic of Erick Erickson:

“ISIS only became a thing when the White House, out of pride and arrogance, decided it was better to placate the left by withdrawing all troops from Iraq rather than help the Iraqis maintain their stability… A young boy has died, washed up on the shores of Europe. His picture has shocked the world and his death is direct result of Barack Obama fleeing the Middle East, tail tucked between his leg, [sic] so he could pridefully say he ended a war he never wanted… The boy is dead because Barack Obama chose to abdicate American leadership in the world.”

Erickson has a very selective memory. The reason we left Iraq was because George W. Bush signed an agreement to do so. The Strategic Framework Agreement and Security Agreement stipulated that all American troops would be gone from Iraq by the end of 2011. Though the Obama administration tried to extend the stay, Iraqi officials vetoed the idea. Obama had no choice but to honor the agreement his predecessor signed. He didn’t flee, he didn’t “placate the left” and it wasn’t pride. It was a contract.

As to ISIS, Newscorpse rightly points out that group is a direct result of Bush’s policy:

“Furthermore, Erickson’s insinuation that Obama was responsible for the rise of ISIS is just as faulty as his understanding of international treaties. Many of the soldiers who formed ISIS were former officials and military operatives of Saddam Hussein’s Bath Party. They were only available to start their radical Islamic army because Bush’s operatives in Iraq prohibited them from having any role in the new Iraqi government. That move turned them into rebels who eventually aligned with ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.”

Erickson’s assertions are based on lies and misrepresentations. Like the rest of the wing-nut crowd, he will bend the truth to his ideology, blaming the current White House resident for things the former resident did.

That image of a Turkish military man carrying the body of that child is heartbreaking. The refugee crisis is real and huge. Leave it to Fox to exploit it, using it to push their own agenda. I’d say “shame on them” but they have none.
