Slain Journalist’s Father Makes Emotional Plea For Gun Laws (VIDEO)

No parent should ever have to bury their child, it is every parent’s worst fear. But more than that, no parent should ever have to live in a world where their child is gunned down by a deranged man with a gun on live TV.

Unfortunately, Andy Parker, father of WDBJ reporter Alison Parker who was killed Wednesday, had to endure. But Parker is turning this unimaginable tragedy into something worthwhile. In his words, this tragedy has compelled him to fight “to do something about crazy people getting guns.”

Appearing on Fox’s The Kelly File, Parker told host Megyn Kelly:

“I’m not going to let this issue drop. We’ve got to do something about crazy people getting guns…Mark my words, my mission in life… I’m going to do something to shame legislatures into doing something about closing loopholes and background checks and making sure crazy people don’t get guns…this is not the last you’ve heard of me.”

Parker also blasted the media for its sensationalized coverage of gun violence, noting that news outlets like Fox will drum up drama for only a few days, before dropping the story and moving on. Parker, however, will not let that silence him.

Governor Terry McAuliffe called Parker to express his condolences and to offer his hand of support in getting comprehensive background checks passed to ensure the utmost safety for Virginia’s citizens.

Unfortunately, such comprehensive background checks are not federally mandated. After the senseless shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary, there was a glimmer of hope Congress would come together in a rare instance of bi-partisanship and pass the Manchin-Toomey background checks. Unfortunately, the bill failed to pass when four spineless Democrats voted against it, fearing political consequences in 2014. Those Senators were Heidi Heitkamp (North Dakota), Mark Begich (Alaska), Max Baucus (Montana), and Mark Pryor (Arkansas). Begich and Pryor both lost their seats in 2014.

Appearing on the program after Parker was right-wing gun nut Dana Losech, who blamed the shooting on aspects of society that “don’t teach a respect for life.” Her example? Planned Parenthood.

Yes, according to gun-nut Republicans, it’s Planned Parenthood’s fault this shooting happened. Who needs gun control when you can just blame a women’s healthcare provider?

This time, the background checks failed the rest of society. The gun was legally purchased. This is where America’s treatment of the mentally ill has failed us all. But when it comes to funding these crucial aspects in our society that keep “crazy people” (as Parker calls them) from being to able to pass a background check in the first place, politicians fall short.

And because of that two more people have fell victim to this abhorrent gun culture we have.
