Doctor Takes Controversial Position: ‘Vaccinate Your Child Or Find Yourself Another Doctor’ (VIDEO)

It’s about time.

Dr. Charles Goodman, a pediatrician with a thriving Southern California medical office has had enough. And now he has posted a message on his Facebook page along with one on the front door to his office: ‘Vaccinate your child from measles or find yourself another doctor.’ He went on to tell CBS:

“I can’t protect every kid in the United States, but I can protect the ones I care for. It’s a very hard line to take, but at some point I had to draw the line in the sand and say you know what, I got to protect my kids, that’s my job as a pediatrician.”

Shortly after his message was aired on CBS news, anti-vaxxers went to Dr. Goodman’s Facebook page and left their messages but he countered with his own along with a link to the CDC explaining what happens when one has the measles:

“I will no longer be personally posting any responses to the anti-vaxxers who can and will post on this page. Their posts will all remain since I believe in their freedom to speak their mind. However, I have seen on this FB page, just as I have seen in my office, that NO AMOUNT of logic, sound scientific data, or anything else will ever change their beliefs. I only encourage each and every parent whose child contracts Measles as a result of this crisis and each adult who does as well, to PLEASE leave their own story here. I think the anti-vaxxers at least should see what they have done.”

Dr. Goodman has tried for years to educate the parents of the children in his care about the dangers of failing to vaccinate against the measles but it has, for the most part, fallen on deaf ears.  According to the doctor, the anti-vaxxers value ‘unscientific information from the web rather than his medical expertise.’

“That’s why I took the stance, believe your doctor, listen to your doctor, not the Internet, or go somewhere els.,”

Dr. Goodman found that he had to weigh the safety of the 2000 vaccinated children in his care versus the dozens of children where parents refuse to vaccinate.

“Those babies could die. I have to weigh the risk of a kid in my office getting measles and potentially dying versus the rights of those parents to not immunize when I thought most of them were making that choice based on bad information.”

According to the CDC:

“Measles is a highly contagious virus that lives in the nose and throat mucus of an infected person. It can spread to others through coughing and sneezing. Also, measles virus can live for up to two hours on a surface or in an airspace where the infected person coughed or sneezed. If other people breathe the contaminated air or touch the infected surface, then touch their eyes, noses, or mouths, they can become infected. Measles is so contagious that if one person has it, 90% of the people close to that person who are not immune will also become infected.  Infected people can spread measles to others from four days before to four days after the rash appears.”

It is time we stood up to parents who attempt to expose others to their dangerous beliefs and support doctors like Dr. Charles Goodman. This week, another doctor without the same ethical concerns as Dr. Goodman preached his anti-vaxxer support with little or no concern to the children and others who are at risk.  One should have a license and the other one should not. It is a no-brainer who cares about his patients and who is seeking attention for all the wrong reasons.
