U.S. Senate Federal Credit Union Mailer Featuring Big Breasts Sparks Petition

The U.S. Senate Federal Credit Union has decided that SEX SELLS! More specifically, faceless blondes with big breasts that appear fake!

The credit union recently sent out a mailer with a photo of a woman’s torso with a special “sparkle” graphic directing your eyes to her buxom chest in case you were focusing on her white tank top or long, flowing blonde hair.

On one side of the photo, it reads “GOT BIG PLANS? Let us worry about the money…you’ve got a lot of living to do.” The other side reads. “Please borrow responsibly.”

The scary thing about this is that, well, there are so many scary things. It’s extremely poor taste. It’s objectifying women and the message it sends is highly insulting to anyone with morals. It also implies that you can borrow the money you need to get that boob-job for yourself, your wife or girlfriend. NICE!

Tuesday morning, credit union member and feminist, Amber Wobschall, put up a Change.org petition, making three demands: “disciplinary action of the persons responsible for creation and approval of the mailing,” a “mailed apology to everyone who received the mailing” and “anti-sexism training to help improve the environment in which this was allowed to occur.” “I can’t imagine what they were thinking,” Wobschall told Huffington Post. “Mailings usually don’t go out without a few sets of eyes in the approval process.”

The petition is addressed to the president and CEO of the U.S. Senate Federal Credit Union, Susan Ennis and had accrued 76 signatures by 6pm that evening. The text read:

Repair the damage of your sexist mailing

This past weekend, the US Senate Federal credit union severely disappointed me with their mailing.

I would like to request the following actions:

1. Disciplinary action of the persons responsible for creation and approval of the mailing.

2. A mailed apology to everyone who received the mailing.

3. Anti-sexism training to help improve the environment in which this was allowed to occur.

Let’s help get our credit unions back on track, serving the community in the respectable manner we deserve.

As a feminist and activist for women’s rights, I am appalled at the blatant agenda to demean women and their role in this country. As long as we allow this kind of behavior, the more we lose respect, rights and our dignity as human beings.

Shame on the U.S. Senate Federal Credit Union for believing this is acceptable.
