Fox News Filing Amicus Brief in Support of CNN’s Lawsuit Against White House

Wow. Even Fox News is on CNN and Jim Acosta’s side against the White House this time.

On Tuesday CNN filed a lawsuit against this White House, alleging that the decision to revoke Jim Acosta’s press access last week after a contentious back and forth with Trump was a violation of “CNN and Acosta’s First Amendment rights of freedom of the press.” In the lawsuit CNN seeks an immediate restraining order to restore Acosta’s press access.

And now Fox News, yes Fox News, is siding with CNN against the White House.

Fox’s President Jay Wallace said in a statement on Wednesday, “Fox News supports CNN in its legal effort to regain its White House reporter’s press credential. We intend to file an amicus brief with the U.S. District Court. Secret Service passes for working White House journalists should never be weaponized.”

Wallace added: “While we don’t condone the growing antagonistic tone by both the President and the press at recent media avails, we do support a free press, access and open exchanges for the American people.”

Meanwhile, the White House keeps changing their story about why they took away Acosta’s hard pass. Initially they were making a huge ordeal out of an exchange between Acosta and a White House intern at a press conference last week where the two inadvertently touched each other as Acosta was pushing Trump for answers. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders claimed that they revoked Acosta’s press credentials because he “put his hands on” the intern. She even tweeted out a doctored video she got from Infowars making it look like Acosta was more aggressive toward the intern than he actually was.

But in response to the lawsuit on Tuesday the White House dropped the bit about Acosta touching the intern. Now they are claiming that they took his hard pass because Acosta was rude and “grandstanding.”

The first hearing for the lawsuit is scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
