Kavanaugh FBI Investigation Exposed As Complete Sham

After the sham hearing last Thursday, where Brett Kavanaugh showed all the judicial restraint of a 2-year-old, as he answered the very credible allegations by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who accused the wannabe Supreme Court Justice of attempted rape. Democrats and sane Americans were awestruck that Republicans were still determined to ram the nomination through, no matter how flawed and non-remorseful the candidate appeared.

That was, until the outgoing Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) agreed to move Kavanaugh’s nomination out of committee, as long as the FBI had a one week investigation. Reluctantly, Republicans and Donald Trump relented, and allowed an investigation. It seemed like a sham from the start, though. Initially, the FBI was limited to talking to just four people. Now, it’s been reported that the FBI isn’t even interviewing the people who are directly involved.

Debra Katz and Michael Bromwich, who are representing Ford, expressed concerns about the investigation in a letter to FBI Director Christopher Wray and FBI general counsel Dana Boente.

“This afternoon, we learned of media reports that the FBI does not intend to interview either Dr. Ford or Judge Kavanaugh. We hope that this reporting is inaccurate,” Katz and Bromwich wrote.

“It is inconceivable that the FBI could conduct a thorough investigation of Dr. Ford’s allegations without interviewing her, Judge Kavanaugh, or the witnesses we have identified in our letters to you,” they added.

Julie Swetnick, who alleges that Kavanaugh was part of a group of boys that gang raped her, has not been interviewed either.

The FBI, of course, is under the purview of the President, who’s been at war with the agency since the start of the Robert Mueller investigation into Trump’s finances and connections to the Russians. While their relationship is tenuous at best, it’s still up to Trump to determine the agency’s scope. They very fact that they aren’t talking to the accuser shows that Trump is doing everything in his power to hide what lies under the rocks the FBI should be tasked with turning over. In other words, it’s doubtful they’ll find anything on Kavanaugh, because they aren’t trying to. Sexual assault survivors across the country have every right to be furious, but they’re already familiar with being ignored and pushed to the side.

Democrats are trying to fight back. The White House and Congressional Republicans have been secretive about the FBI’s instructions, but Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), the ranking member of the Judiciary Committee, has asked that the instructions be released.

“Given the seriousness of the allegations before the Senate, I am writing to request that you provide the Senate Judiciary Committee with a copy of the written directive sent by the White House to the FBI,” the California senator wrote. “In addition, if the FBI requests any expansion beyond the initial directive, please provide the names of any additional witnesses or evidence.”

Today, there are only three days left in the week-long investigation.
