Texas Gov Makes A Fool Of Himself Tweeting Fake Churchill Quote To Bash Anti-Fascists

Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) took to Twitter to send out a message against anti-fascists in the form of a quote who he attributed to former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill in a meme. Later, Abbott deleted the tweet but claimed he still agreed with the sentiment. The quote in the meme states, “The fascists of the future will call themselves anti-fascists.” You may have seen that meme circulating on social media before but it’s falsely attributed to Churchill and the Internet was happy to point that out.

Patrick Svitek of the Texas Tribune took a screen capture of Abbott’s tweet which had garnered over 1,600 likes. This is how fake news is circulated and it mostly seems to come from conservatives.

He really likes that word, doesn’t he?

After being called out, Abbott made a statement.

“Listen, what I tweeted was a sentiment that I have, and that is Antifa is dangerous to society and Antifa is the antithesis of safety and security. And they are antagonists to law enforcement as well as to other people,” Abbott said in Waco. “It was irrelevant to me who may or may not have said that in the past. I didn’t want to be accused of plagiarism for saying it. If no one else said it, attribute the quote to me because it’s what I believe in.”

Yeah, sure, tell the anti-fascists that they’re the REAL fascists and not the apologists for fascism. I, too, have a quote. “Accuse the other side of that which you are guilty” ~ That’s attributed to Joseph Goebbels.

Abbott feigns concern for law enforcement while his party has repeatedly attacked the FBI. Sounds legit!
