Paul Ryan Drops The Hammer, Refuses To Support Rosenstein Impeachment

Donald Trump has sycophants in the United States House of Representatives. Instead of letting the Russia investigation, being impeccably conducted by Special Counsel Robert S. Mueller III, they are doing all they can to make it go away – even if it means impeaching Trump’s own Deputy Attorney General, Rod Rosenstein. Of course, due to Attorney General Jeff Sessions’s recusal in all things Trump-Russia, Rosenstein is overseeing the investigation. That means that in order to get rid of Mueller before he finds anything to nail Trump with, Rosenstein must be removed. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that Trump’s GOP allies in the House are now doing all they can to impeach Rosenstein so that they can install a Trump lackey who will fire Mueller. However, those who want that done will have to get past House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) first, and he’s having none of the impeachment talk.

During a presser on Wednesday, Ryan said the following of the impeachment efforts being leveled against Rosenstein:

“Do I support impeachment of Rod Rosenstein? No, I do not. I don’t think we should be cavalier with this process.”
Ryan went on to say:
“Number two: I don’t think that this rises to the level of high crimes and misdemeanors. I have a really high standard. Number three: We — since I got involved — [Republicans] have been getting a lot of compliance from [Justice Department officials] on the document request. We do not have full compliance. And we have to get full compliance. But we’ve been making tremendous progress to that point.”
These comments come after Reps. Jim Jordan and Mark Meadows insisted upon officially drawing up articles of impeachment against Rosenstein, and even threatening to force a vote on them on the House floor. Ryan rarely shows his spine, but he did this time. Let’s just hope it holds.
