SWAT Team Busts Down Door Of Parkland Survivor David Hogg’s Home

Someone tried to assassinate Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg. This is not an overstatement. This is not an exaggeration. It’s what happened.

David Hogg has made a lot of enemies on the Right with his perfectly reasonable calls for stricter gun reform — including powerful entities like the National Rifle Association. Conservative politicians and activists. Right-wing pundits like Laura Ingraham. Basically, the majority of the Trump base.

All of these people regularly attack Hogg and other shooting survivors, and that influence has consequences.

It seems someone on the Right was inspired to call in a false hostage situation at Hogg’s home. Fortunately, he and his mother were in Washington D.C. to accept the RFK Human Rights award. Unfortunately, a SWAT team busted down his door.

This “prank” as some are irresponsibly calling it is known as “Swatting” and is very dangerous. The caller likely got the idea from a recent Kansas shooting death that involved both law enforcement and a fake “hostage” call. Unfortunately, the victim was home to receive “justice” in this case.

Swatting is Dangerous

Last year, an argument over a video game bled over into the real world when a caller reported a shooting and hostage situation at the home of his rival. The caller gave the wrong address to his intended victim’s home, making the situation even more horrific.

A SWAT team swarmed the home of someone who wasn’t even involved in the dispute and shot him as he attempted to find out what was happening — or as the Wichita, Kansas Police Department says:

Officers observed movement in the residence and began to approach, when an adult male from the residence was shot by Wichita Police at or around 1828 hours (6:28 p.m.).

“Our officers came here preparing for a hostage situation,”  Wichita police Deputy Chief Troy Livingston said last December. “Several got in position. A male came to the front door, and one of our officers discharged his weapon.” The officer who fired the shot was not punished.

This is what the caller meant to do to Hogg. This was not just some prank; this was an attempt on his life — and it probably won’t be the last.
