Dumbass WV Republicans Accidentally Vote Unanimously To Give Teachers A Fair Raise And All Hell Breaks Loose

Republicans are stupid. While this could be considered a matter of opinion rather than fact, West Virginia’s Republican lawmakers decided on Saturday to prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt when they tried to screw over the state’s teachers and accidentally voted unanimously to give them a fair raise instead.

Friday marked the seventh day of a much-neglected-by-the-media statewide walkout of West Virginia’s educators over a pittance of a “raise” that didn’t even come close to covering increased insurance costs.

The battle has thus far been heated, with Republican governor Jim Justice joking about school shootings and threatening educators before ultimately caving and telling lawmaker to give them a 5% raise — a sudden change in opinion that had furious Republicans vehemently refusing to do a damn thing besides maybe look into insurance costs.

By week’s end, the GOP majority decided that with parents furious that their greed has been keeping their children from attending school, they had no choice but to act. They decided to give teachers most of what they asked for, but this is where the situation becomes downright comical:

The West Virginia state Senate on Saturday tried to vote to give teachers a smaller raise hike than negotiated, but accidentally voted on a bill giving teachers the requested raise.

The chaos in the W.Va. state legislature comes as teachers in the state have been on strike for seven days in demand of a raise.

The state House and Republican Governor Jim Justice had both approved a five percent raise.

Republicans in the state Senate on Saturday thought they had voted unanimously on a bill that only offered a four percent raise, according to local reporters.

Shortly after, lawmakers realized they had mistakenly voted to approve the House’s five percent raise bill. Republicans immediately began working to repeal the law and instead pass a four percent raise for teachers.

Democrats reportedly opposed repealing the bill and cheered the accidental vote to approve a five percent raise.

In case you’re not paying attention here, Republicans tried to screw over the state’s underpaid teachers and ended up ‘owning’ themselves. WVC Metro News correspondent Brad McElhinny shared the gory details on Twitter:

So what the fuck is happening? Who knows at this point — but teachers are refusing to go back to work until a 5 percent raise is approved by the House and Senate and signed by the Governor.  Teachers remain eager to return to work and my son has spent the past 7 days at home with me (which has been fun, but I’d rather not sacrifice his education to play Overwatch with him).

Both the House and Senate have adjourned until Monday, with Republicans once again showing they don’t give a single fuck about children’s education.
