Jeff Sessions Just Went Full White Supremacist At A Sheriffs’ Conference

We’ve all been waiting for it to happen, but finally Attorney General Jeff Sessions really let his Confederate Flag fly where he felt most comfortable doing so — at a law enforcement conference.

“I want to thank every sheriff in America. Since our founding, the independently elected sheriff has been the people’s protector, who keeps law enforcement close to, and accountable to, people through the elected process,” Sessions said at the National Sheriffs’ Association’s winter conference in Washington, D.C., adding, “The office of sheriff is a critical part of the Anglo-American heritage of law enforcement.”

If you’ve been paying attention or accidentally stumbled over to Breitbart or the Gateway Pundit lately, you know what racists, white supremacists, Nazis, people who are in denial about being Nazis, and other Trump supporters refer to themselves as “Anglo-American” and similar terms almost as much as they talk about their “European heritage.”

“We must never erode this historic office,” the Attorney General said.

Clearly, Sessions was giving law enforcement a dog-whistle term to let them know that their tradition of beating and killing African-Americans wholesale  is much appreciated. But let’s let DOJ spokesperson Ian Prior have a crack at defending him:

“As most law students learn in the first week of their first year, Anglo-American law — also known as the common law — is a shared legal heritage between England and America. The sheriff is unique to that shared legal heritage. Before reporters sloppily imply nefarious meaning behind the term, we would suggest that they read any number of the Supreme Court opinions that use the term. Or they could simply put ‘Anglo-American law’ into Google.”

The dictionary definition of “Anglo” is “a white, English-speaking American as distinct from a Hispanic American.”

Sessions once said the KKK “was OK until I found out they smoked pot.” While he has been waging a war on marijuana in some sort of weird Reefer Madness-inspired crusade, Sessions has ended multiple police reform programs, lifted a ban on giving military equipment to local cops, targeted “black identity extremists,” attempted to delay ongoing reform programs and generally fought his own personal civil war since he became Attorney General.

Swing and a miss, Mr. Prior.
