Reagan’s Daughter: My Dad Would Be ‘So Appalled’ By The GOP Clown Car (AUDIO)

According to Ronald and Nancy Reagan’s daughter, Patti Davis, the former president is practically rolling over in his grave because of the abysmal 2016 GOP clown car. Though Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Ben Carson, Donald Trump and the rest of the veritable Brady Bunch of ignorance and bigotry idolize Reagan, Davis says her father just wouldn’t be that into them.

In an interview with SiriusXM, Reagan’s daughter said that her father — who barely escaped an attempted assassination in 1981, would be disgusted by today’s level of gun violence, a stance the current Republican field rejects entirely. In addition, she pointed out that her mother, unlike today’s conservatives, was pleased with the Supreme Court’s ruling on gay marriage:

“She was very happy about that decision. I don’t talk to her too much about politics currently. She’s 94 and I think she has the right to live out the rest of life with a little bit of peace, which cannot be found in the current political scene. But you know, I don’t think she’s too happy about anybody on the current roster right now. I mean, there’s nobody presidential. Not in that group anyway.”

Asked about Ted Cruz repeatedly invoking her father’s name in an effort to win votes from gullible conservatives who worship her father, Davis explained that her father would probably tell them to knock it off, if he were alive today. In fact, she says, the Republicans of today would reject “another Ronald Reagan” if he were to come along:

“It may be this week he’s doing it more than the others. But they all kind of do it. But yet, they are so not like him. My father would be so appalled at what’s going on. He would be so appalled at these candidates. I don’t think he would be a Republican. And if another Ronald Reagan came along right now, I don’t think the Republican Party would accept him.”

When pressed if Jeb Bush, whose family was close to the Reagan family, would be a man her father could get behind, Davis replied, “Well, I don’t think he’s presidential, do you?”

Davis says her father would clash heavily with the current GOP, who is in the pocket of the NRA, on guns — an issue very dear to the former President, who survived an assassination attempt. “He came out for the Brady bill in, I think, it was 1991,” she explained, referencing a piece of legislation named after Reagan’s former press secretary, who was paralyzed during the attempt on the former president’s life.  “I don’t think he’d ever be able to conceive what’s going on now, the amount of gun violence or weaponry.”

Sorry Republicans, I know how you feel about Reagan, but he’s probably not going to go to the prom with you. He doesn’t want to sit with you in the lunchroom. He absolutely doesn’t want to be your friend.

Take the hint.
