Carly Fiorina’s BS Planned Parenthood Lies Get Even Worse

Carly Fiorina’s comments during the CNN debate proved she has no idea what Planned Parenthood actually does. The statements that night didn’t even come close to passing the fact check test after the debate either.

“Fiorina makes it sound as if the footage shows what Planned Parenthood is alleged to have done. In fact, the stock footage was added to the video to dramatize its content. We rate her statement Mostly False.”

That sparked several Planned Parenthood clinics to invite Fiorina to their offices to meet some of the women and hear about the services that they were receiving. A majority of the things that Planned Parenthood provides are related to the health and wellness of women. Such was the case when Fiorina went to the South Carolina facility on Thursday where a pregnant mom was having some tests run on her 17-week-old fetus. Like most women at Planned Parenthood she wasn’t there for an abortion.

Planned Parenthood denies, and truthfully can deny, the statement by Fiorina “they’re butchering babies and selling their organs.” It is a false claim. A lie. Anyone who says differently is lying, including Carly Fiorina.

As Dave Weigel wrote for the Washington Post:

“Other campaigns have climbed down from similar claims about the videos. Fiorina and her allies have done no such thing. Three days after the debate, CARLY for America — the PAC that legally has to keep its distance from Fiorina’s actual campaign — put together a video that spliced the candidate’s answer with different clips. The viewer, hearing about the controversy but unaware of the original videos, might think that Fiorina nailed it.”

A fascinating study was once done on a cult in Chicago that examined why reasoning can be so clouded by emotion. Those who believe something like vaccines are harmful, the President is a secret Muslim from Kenya, and that Planned Parenthood is selling aborted fetus brains to Frankenstein, are all more likely to double down in their beliefs when confronted with overwhelming evidence to the contrary. They ignore evidence and become more strident in their beliefs.

That is not the temperament we need in a President of the United States. It isn’t balanced, level headed, or rational.

Yesterday, Carly Fiorina doubled down on her anti-choice nonsense telling pregnant Lacey Thomas watching an ultrasound image, “It’s good when people know what 17 weeks look like.”

Outside the clinic, Fiorina said:

“Liberals and progressives will spend inordinate amounts of time and money protecting fish, frogs and flies,” Mrs. Fiorina said. “They do not think a 17-week-old, a 20-week-old, a 24-week-old is worth saving. This, ladies and gentlemen, is hypocrisy, and it goes to the core of the character of our nation.”

The character of our nation should be someone who possesses empathy. Fiorina had no empathy at Planned Parenthood yesterday. At no point did she admit that the woman she talked to was an anti-choice woman getting non-abortion services at a Planned Parenthood clinic. At no point did Lacey Thomas tell Fiorina that she wasn’t coerced into trying to have an abortion. At no point did Fiorina admit that Lacey Thomas could have been one of the 650,000 women to lose access to health care if Planned Parenthood was defunded by Congress.

What would have been helpful is for Fiorina to meet a poor woman who wanted to have an abortion. Could Fiorina sit and listen to the plight the woman faced, the lack of access to birth control that could have prevent the pregnancy. Could Fiorina have listened to that women without shaming her or trying to convince her it isn’t all that expensive or difficult?

Could Carly Fiorina summon the empathy to speak to a woman facing a fear, that far too many women must, of being fired from her job due to pregnancy related issues like, frequent bathroom breaks, doctors appointments, and need for maternity leave? Could Fiorina spare the time in her busy presidential race schedule to hear from a woman who knew she couldn’t have another child because she and her husband couldn’t afford to give that child a decent life? What would Fiorina do if she met a 17 year old girl who had been raped by a boy at school? Would she force that girl to carry her rapists’ baby, raise it, and face the child of her rapist every day for the rest of her life?

Until Carly Fiorina can prove she has the temperament and empathy to be a leader, she is nothing more than another CEO hack playing BS politics because she has too much money and nothing better to do with her time.
