Ted Cruz Gets His A** Handed To Him By GOP Senator For Egging On Another Costly Government Shutdown

Senator Ted Cruz REALLY wants another government shutdown, and Senator Kelly Ayotte REALLY wants Cruz to explain how this time will be any different.

In 2013, Cruz instigated a government shutdown over Obamacare, even though Republicans had failed time and time again to push a repeal through Congress, and despite the fact that President Obama would just veto it anyway. Regardless, Cruz persuaded House Republicans to fight the losing battle, and it cost them big.

Americans overwhelmingly and rightfully blamed Republicans for the shutdown, which resulted in an economic loss of billions of dollars. National parks and monuments closed while businesses experienced disruptions.

But Cruz was prepared to go so far as to let America default on the debt, which would have had catastrophic repercussions on the economy and the country as a whole. Basically, Cruz wanted to use America as a hostage, and so he met with House Republicans to urge them to kill the hostage if they didn’t get their way.

However, reason and sanity prevailed when House Republicans abandoned the fight and passed a clean debt ceiling bill without requiring the repeal of Obamacare, a program that has gone on to insure millions of uninsured Americans.

But now Cruz wants to shutdown the government again, this time over Planned Parenthood funding.

In an apparent effort to bolster his Tea Party credentials and draw the conservative base back to his embarrassing presidential campaign, Cruz has decided to once again urge Republicans to fight a battle they can’t win. He even sent many Republicans a letter begging them to fight and die on that hill.

Of course, what Republicans are fighting to destroy is the healthcare of millions of low income women across the country, which included cancer screenings, contraception, and testing for HIV and STDs among many other services. Three percent of those services include abortions, which are NOT paid for with federal funding and is legal under the Constitution.

But because of heavily edited videos purporting to show Planned Parenthood selling fetal body parts, Cruz thinks he has found a winner, except that Senate Republicans don’t have 60 votes to pass a defunding measure, and even if they did, they don’t have 67 votes to override the veto that President Obama would immediately stamp on the bill.

Republicans also haven’t forgotten that the American people blamed them for the previous shutdown, and since 2016 is right around the corner, many in the GOP would rather not risk pissing off the electorate prior to a crucial election year.

And that’s why Republican Senator Kelly Ayotte sent Cruz a letter on Thursday reminding him of how much of a lost cause this fight over Planned Parenthood is, and demanded to know his plan to make a government shutdown work this time around.

“Given the challenges and threats we face at home and abroad, I oppose ricking a government shutdown,” Ayotte wrote after pointing out that Cruz still won’t get what he wants in the Senate or from President Obama. “Particularly when it appears there is no chance of achieving a successful result.” The letter continued:

“Nevertheless, as I understand it, you have been circulating a letter to our colleagues asking them to oppose any government funding bill that continues to authorize funding for Planned Parenthood.

Since we only received 53 votes on the previous vote to redirect money away from Planned Parenthood, what is your strategy to succeed in actually defunding Planned Parenthood?

How do we get 60 votes?

And if for some reason there were 60 votes, how do we get 67 votes in the Senate to overcome a Presidential veto?

During the last government shutdown, I repeatedly asked you what your strategy for success was when we did not have the votes to achieve the goal of defunding Obamacare, but I did not receive an answer. I am again asking this question and would appreciate you sharing your strategy for success with all of us before any damaging government shutdown becomes imminent.”

And thus, Ted Cruz just had his ass handed to him by yet another one of his Republican colleagues in the U.S. Senate.

It sounds like Cruz is not only about lose his campaign for president, he’s also about to be put in a time-out by his own party again.
