Stupid American Beats Up Sikh Man In Anti-Arab Fit Of Rage (VIDEO)

Each year as the anniversary of the September 11 attacks approaches, America becomes a more dangerous place for one group of people — Sikhs. Because of their beards and the turbans that they wear to hold up their hair, some Americans mistake Sikhs for Arabs. That is what appears to have happened to Inderjit Singh Mukker, a Chicago area cab driver, who says he was brutally beaten by a man who called him a “terrorist.”

Mukker, who according to The Hindu, is a U.S. citizen, said that he was on his way to the grocery store when a car repeatedly cut him off. The man allegedly yelled at Mukker, saying “Terrorist, go back to your country, Bin Laden!” Mukker pulled over to the side of the road to allow the driver to pass him, but the man in the other car got out, approached Mukker as he sat in his vehicle, and repeatedly punched him in his face. Mukker lost consciousness and suffered a fractured cheekbone. He required several stitches to close a gash on his face. The suspect is in custody, but no charges have yet been filed. The Sikh Coalition wants the incident investigated as a hate crime.

After the incident, Mukker had this to say:

“No American should be afraid to practice their faith in our country. I’m thankful for the swift response of authorities to apprehend the individual, but without this being fully investigated as a hate crime, we risk ignoring the horrific pattern of intolerance, abuse and violence that Sikhs and other minority communities in this country continue to face.”

Sikhs have been the victims of hate crimes by Americans who have mistaken them for Arabs almost every year since the 9/11 attacks. One of the worst of those was the August 2012 attack on a Sikh temple in Wisconsin, where seven people were killed.

In what appears to be a “public service” of sorts, the anti-Muslim site Bare Naked Islam offers a guide to the differences between Sikh and Muslim head gear. The site says that by knowing the difference, “you might be able to save a Sikh’s life one day.” In other words, if you see someone getting attacked and they’re dressed like a Muslim, then it’s okay to either ignore it or join in? That’s what it sounds like.

Sikhs are not Muslims, nor are they Hindus. Sikhism is the fifth largest religion in the world. Sikhs follow a philosophy of “oneness and love,” and believe in a life of spirituality and service. They wear the turbans that often get them mistaken for Muslims because they do not cut their hair. Will Mike Huckabee or Ted Cruz come to the defense of Mr. Mukker, who was attacked for wearing the garments required by his religion, by someone filled with hate who was too ignorant to know what that religion is?
