Black Activist Issues ‘Challenge’ To Obama To Denounce ‘Racist’ #BlackLivesMatter Movement (VIDEO)

Black activist Joe Evans, who used to be vice-chairman and executive director of the Jefferson County Republican Party in Texas, has recently challenged President Barack Obama and others to “denounce the Black Lives Matter movement” because it is “racist.”

Evans, who is currently running for Jefferson County Commissioner, created his challenge on Saturday. Interrupting his workout to shoot a selfie video after hearing about the murder of Harris County Sheriff’s Office Debuty Darren Goforth, Evans posted the clip to his Facebook page where it went viral.

Trying to make sense of a seemingly unprovoked shooting, Evans proposed a solution to senseless gun violence. Evans said:

“Unfortunately, my workout was cut short when I saw that another officer was assassinated last night. And many people will blame it on us not taking a serious approach to mental health, or we need stricter gun laws.

But I think we should start by denouncing the black lives movement.”

Evans continues, stating that it is harmful for a movement to claim “their lives are better than another group of peoples’ lives” and encouraging people to replace “black lives matter” with “all lives matter.” Clearly, Evans doesn’t understand that the Black Lives Matter movement doesn’t suggest that black lives are more valuable or superior to other races. The movement simply fights against the racial inequality that continues to plague African Americans and aims to elevate awareness about African American issues, particularly related to police brutality and criminal justice.

Evans continues, issuing a call to action for Obama and other leaders to stop supporting the social justice movement. He said:

“I challenge every leader, starting with the president down to myself, to denounce the black lives matter movement. It’s a racist movement — racist to the core — and it will only cause more division and more hate among Americans.”

You can watch Evans’ short video below:

The Black Lives Matter movement was first blamed for Deputy Darren Goforth’s death on Saturday afternoon, during a press conference. In speaking to the press, Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman said that the Black Lives Matter movement had promoted “dangerous rhetoric,” which was to blame for the “calculated and cold-blooded” attacks on police officers by African Americans. He said, “That police officer that got killed by that black man because that black man listened to what you all were saying about going out and killing white people. That police officer’s life mattered.”

“We’ve heard black lives matter, all lives matter. Well, cops’ lives matter, too.”

Many are now speaking out against the Black Lives Matter movement, focusing on the radical and violent responses instead all the visibility the movement has brought to police brutality and other social issues that have oppressed black people. Yes, it is horrible that a police officer was killed – he shouldn’t have been. But to blame an entire movement for the actions of one idiot is ignorant. The Black Lives Matter movement has accomplished so much in terms of making racism an important topic in America and blaming a senseless crime on activists fighting for equality is pointing the finger in the entirely wrong direction.
