Scott Walker Blows Off #BlackLivesMatter – Let’s Talk About ‘Things That Matter’

Scott Walker doesn’t think that the #BlackLivesMatter movement is important. How do we know this, you might ask? Well, because he said so. According to Raw Story, Walker went to New Hampshire where, like almost every other candidate, he was asked whether he would be making time to speak with activists from #BlackLivesMatter. Well, the good governor completely brushed these inquiries aside. In fact, he called them “ridiculous.”

Clearly uncomfortable with these questions regarding black activism and how he would address it, Walker said:

“I’m going to meet with voters. I mean, I’ve said, it’s not just – who knows who that is?”

What does that even mean, Gov. Walker? Anyway, moving on. Walker continued to dig his hole deeper:

“I’m going to talk with American voters. Period. It’s the same way as saying you’re going to meet with the Tea Party. Who’s the Tea Party? There’s hundreds of thousands of people out there.”

Well, I don’t even have to tell you how offensive it is that Scott Walker compared  a noble movement like #BlackLivesMatter that addressed the very real deaths of Black American to the hateful ignorance that is the Tea Party. The fact that he even went there is beyond reprehensible. But Walker’s next statement makes how he feels about #BlackLivesMatter (and likely Black Americans in general) quite clear:

“I’m here to talk to voters in New Hampshire about things that matter.

So, in response to questions about his plans for addressing the issues of #BlackLivesMatter and Black America at large, Gov. Walker says he’s there to speak on things that matter? That’s all I need to hear. He is completely dismissing the movement and, according to at least one activist, Wisconsin voter Ciara Fox, her governor didn’t take any questions from black audience members during an event in Iowa, where BLM activists arrived by bus just to attend and hear what Gov. Walker had to say.

In comparison, Democratic frontrunners Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders have each met with members of #BlackLivesMatter and addressed their concerns.

Well, Scott Walker, if this any indication, you’ve made yourself crystal clear: you have no intentions of addressing #BlackLivesMatter, and I can only conclude that in your privileged white world, that’s because, to you, our lives don’t matter.
