Ted Cruz Would Remove United States From Human Rights Council

Ted Cruz wants the Unites States to withdraw from the United Nations Human Rights Council in complete disregard for those around the world whose basic human rights are being violated.

On Friday, ranking crazy Republican presidential wannabe Ted Cruz openly called for the United States to stop being a member of the Human Rights Council of the United Nations after the body correctly called out and condemned Israel for violating the human rights of innocent Palestinians last summer when their brutal attack against Gaza left over 2,000 Palestinians dead and over 10,000 wounded, including over 3,000 children. The resolution also condemned Israel for committing war crimes against innocent Palestinians.

It could have been much worse as Israeli officials actually called for committing genocide against the Palestinians which would make the Israelis no better than the Nazis during World War II.

But Cruz responded to the resolution by calling for a complete US withdrawal from the Human Rights Council because the rest of the world refused to agree with us. And why should they? After all, our nation has a far too close relationship with Israel to be taken seriously on this particular matter, especially since the US government provides Israel $3 billion in defense spending every year, some of which probably paid for the munitions the Israeli military used to maim and kill innocent men, women, and children in Gaza.

In other words, of course the United States would vote against the resolution condemning Israel because our nation aided and abetted Israel’s violent anti-Palestinian campaign, making us partly responsible for the human rights violations.

In addition, Cruz accused the United Nations of being anti-Semitic and accused them of supporting Hamas and genocide against Jews.

Here’s what Cruz had to say via his website.

“Our single vote in opposition is just and the abstentions of our friends are welcome, but at this point they are meaningless gestures. It is time to stop ceding moral authority to the UNHRC and tell the truth about this hopelessly biased and anti-Semitic institution. There is no equivalency between Israel’s right to self-defense and Hamas’ genocidal aggression against the Jewish people. There is no equivalence between Israel’s extraordinary efforts to protect civilians and Hamas’ use of the Palestinian people as human shields. Being party to any body that believes there is only perpetuates this injustice. The United States should stop legitimizing the UNHRC with our membership and withdraw now.”

Israel’s right to self-defense does NOT include the right to murder thousands of innocent civilians, including children. Cruz, however, seems to think killing civilians is perfectly acceptable. Like it or not, every human being on this planet has basic human rights that should be protected and that’s why the Human Rights Council exists. It does NOT exist to turn a blind eye to human rights violations just because the nation committing them is a majority-Jewish population. It exists to call out violations no matter who is committing them.

Throwing a temper tantrum and withdrawing from the international community is an irrational and irresponsible action from a man who wants to be the leader of the free world. Doing so would only damage our image and respect around the globe as nations interpret our withdrawal as abandoning human beings who need our help to defend their human rights. We are supposed to be a champion for human rights and international cooperation, not a quitter when something doesn’t go our way. Cruz would have us take our ball and go home, but it’s more important than ever before for us to stay in the game and work together with the rest of the world to defend human rights.
