Guess Who’s Helping Bigoted, Uninsured Anti-Obamacare Sheriff Who Can’t Pay Medical Bills? (SCREENSHOTS)

Conservatives may have been willing to abandon Sheriff Richard Mack, who has spent his retirement years fighting against the right of the poor’s ability to obtain health insurance and doing his utmost to deprive LGBT individuals of the right to marry (which has been deemed a basic human right by the United Nations), and supporting other extremist right-wing causes.

Mack, founder of the extremist Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association and staunch supporter of welfare cowboy Cliven Bundy who wanted to use women as human shields in the seditionist mob surrounding Bundy Ranch’s armed standoff with the federal government, explained on his web site that:

The States do not have to take or support or pay for Obamacare or anything else from Washington DC. The States are not subject to federal direction.

While he may be a vocal opponent of the Affordable Care Act, the Mack has run into some medical issues of its own. His wife fell ill late last year, and Mack has ongoing coronary issues. This has left the couple with crippling medical bills and an inability to pay them, according to a GoFundMe campaign started by Mack’s son.

“Since it appears that recovery will take a good deal of time with associated expenses, I struggle to not feel stress – both the stress of thinking about huge hospital and other medical bills as well as regular living expenses while I am unable to work — and also the stress of not being able to accomplish what I am so passionate about doing for others,” Mack wrote on his GoFundMe. “It is difficult and humbling to say that we need your help, but we do.”

Mack chose not to sign up for Obamacare, and did not purchase insurance through alternative means. His conscious decision to make a political statement at the expense of his family’s well-being has left him in quite a bind. The GoFundMe is filled with a mix of supportive messages, mockery, and well-wishings — but most commonly a combination of the latter two:

One might assume, given the nearly universal praise of Mack in the conservative bubble, that right-wingers would be crawling over one another to provide assistance to their hero. However, a glance at comments left by those who have donated reveals that liberals are able to show compassion even to someone who openly hates them — someone who proudly fights against basic civil rights, supports domestic terrorists, and is generally an awful person.

While many conservatives, of course, helped their hero in the beginning, the pages and pages of recent donations show that the right-wing has given up on helping him…but liberals are keeping the aid alive:

Around $20,000 has been raised to assist the Mack family with medical bills, out of Mack’s $30,000 goal.
