Michael Steele Blasts Criminal Justice System: Black Lives ‘Not Worth A Ham Sandwich’ (VIDEO)

Former RNC chairman Michael had some strong words about the criminal justice system in this country in the wake of the decision by a Staten IslandĀ Grand Jury that chose not to indict a white police officer for the death of another unarmed African American.

The Grand Jury decided not to indict NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo for choking Eric Garner to death via illegal choke hold. The decision came nearly two weeks after the Ferguson Grand Jury let white police officer Darren Wilson off the hook for murdering unarmed teen Michael Brown, a decision that led to days of protests in the Missouri city.

During an appearance on MSNBC on Wednesday, Steele told host Alex Wagner that “a black man’s life is not worth a ham sandwich” to grand juries and the prosecutors who are supposed to fight tooth and nail for an indictment.

“I think this is part of the same narrative, it’s the same linear story as far as I’m concerned,” Steele said in reference to a long string of black youths being shot and killed by white cops without any indictments whatsoever for wrongdoing despite evidence to the contrary.

“We very much appreciate the protections and the role police play in our communities, but there are some very very bright lines that have begun to appear in the last 18 to 24 months. And they tell us, at least, a prosecutor can indict a ham sandwich. Well clearly a black man’s life is not worth a ham sandwich when you put these stories together. And that is the frustration that a lot of African-Americans see… The facts and the evidence all put into the proper context begs that this at least gets to a jury of the individual’s peers so that we as a community can go through this process, begin the healing and begin to take, I guess, a more open look at our criminal justice system.”

So even Michael Steele thinks that there is a major problem in America when white police officers can literally kill black people and get away with it, even when the evidence shows that the officers are clearly in the wrong. This is a tragedy and something needs to be done to restore justice in this country.

The message is being sent to racists everywhere. If you want to kill a black person and get away with it, just become a police officer. The prosecutor and the Grand Jury will gladly look the other way.
