Duck Dynasty Patriarch Phil Robertson: Only ‘Biblically Correct’ Sex Is STD-Free (VIDEO)

Phil Robertson, star of the reality TV show Duck Dynasty, gave a sermon in Louisiana last month that reflected his views on sexually-transmitted diseases and Christian marriages. According to the Duck Dynasty patriarch, ‘biblically correct sex’ is completely STD-free. Robertson’s exact words were:

“Biblically correct sex is safe. It’s safe. You’re not going to get chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, AIDS — if you, if a man marries a woman, and neither of you have it, and you keep your sex between the two of you, you’re not going to ever get sexually transmitted diseases.” (source)

Here’s a recording of the sermon:

As the sermon continued, Robertson blamed the spread of STDs on “orthodox liberal opinion.” He also accused every member of his audience — including himself — of being “sexually immoral.”

According to Robertson, sex by the Bible is the only way to remain free of sexually-transmitted diseases.

“Man meets woman, marries her, keeps his sex right there. The children come, the chances of them getting a sexually transmitted disease, would you say is almost zero? You can say it.” (source)

However, Robertson’s statements about monogamous, “biblically correct” sex have been debunked. Earlier this year, researcher Elizabeth Boskey discovered:

“Even if you had undergone regular screening, if you were infected while having sex with a partner who had not been tested in years, there is always the possibility that they were infected asymptomatically a long time before you got together – and just didn’t know it. Even when you are having sex with someone who is infected with an std, you won’t necessarily get infected the first time you sleep together. Particularly if you intermittently practice safe sex, it could take months or even years.” (source)

Robertson’s comments about sexual immorality have also included homosexuality. In early September, Robertson went on the Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins radio show to promote his new book “unPHILtered.” On the show, Robertson said that STDs were God’s “penalty” for having sex outside of Christian beliefs. He said:

“Do you think it’s a coincidence that all of these debilitating — literally that can cause death — diseases follow that kind of conduct?

God says, ‘One woman, one man,’ and everyone says, ‘Oh, that’s old hat, that’s that old Bible stuff. But I’m thinking, well let’s see now. A clean guy — a disease-free guy and a disease-free woman — they marry and they keep their sex between the two of them. They’re not going to get chlamydia, and gonorrhea, and syphilis, and AIDS. It’s safe.

Either it’s the wildest coincidence ever that horrible diseases follow immoral conduct, or, it’s God saying, ‘There’s a penalty for that kind of conduct.’ I’m leaning towards there’s a penalty for it.” (source)
