Pope Francis Stops Motorcade To Bless Disabled Woman (VIDEO)

During Pope Francis’ pastoral visit to Calabria in southern Italy, the Pope halted the car he was riding in to bless a young disabled woman and her family after seeing them standing on the side of the road.

The family posted a video of the encounter online, shown below:

The Pope had been speaking out against the mafia, and was returning from Cassano allo Jonio as he passed by a highway close to the family’s home. That was when he saw a group of people holding signs, causing him to suddenly stop his motorcade. The banners said:

“Please Pope stop here to see an angel who has been waiting for you. Please come and bless little Roberta.” [source]

Roberta is disabled and not able to breathe on her own. Although she can’t travel far from home, she hoped to see Pope Francis as he returned to the Vatican. Fortunately, Roberta and her family got their wish.

The Pope blessed Roberta with a kiss and proceeded to shake hands with all of the friends and family surrounding her. In his eagerness to give Roberta and her family his blessing, he almost hopped out of the car before it stopped moving!

To show their appreciation for Pope Francis, Roberta’s family hung a large banner in front of their house, saying “Thank you very much” in Italian.
