The issues surrounding the multiple dead and injured in Santa Barbara had not even fully been understood or addressed before the congressional campaign of Tony Strickland went forward with a robocall to potential voters that offered up his pro-gun bona fides. Strickland, who served the specific district affected by the attack in the California statehouse and likely counted many of the victims as his constituents, produced a recorded call that has to be heard to be believed.
Protect our gun rights, vote for Tony Strickland for Congress. Tony Strickland has a history of protecting our 2nd Amendment rights and will do the same in Congress. Tony Strickland was a founding member of the NRA Member Council and former California Rifle and Pistol Association Legislator of the Year.
Tony has been a longtime supporter of the rights of citizens to keep and bear arms and will continue to oppose, and actively fight, any legislation that would take away our 2nd Amendment right to bear arms. As the founder of the Freedom Firearms Coalition and with a lifetime ‘A’ rating from the NRA, we can count on Tony Strickland to protect our constitutional rights.
On June 3, vote for Tony Strickland for Congress. This call was paid for by Strickland for Congress.
The campaign, which called the timing ‘unfortunate’ certainly didn’t rush the robocall as a result of the massacre but they didn’t do anything to stop it. Campaigns are the time when voters are meant to focus on the judgment and effective leadership of a candidate. Strickland, either through negligence or complete lack of empathy, failed this leadership challenge horribly.
Despite Strickland’s significant fundraising lead in the race, this gaffe could work to the advantage of Steve Knight, the other Republican squaring off against Strickland in the June 3 primary.
The most important thing is to make certain each side doesn’t retreat to their corners from where they cannot bridge the chasm of mistrust. An honest, open and engaging national conversation must, now more than ever, begin to take shape with regard to sensible and responsible firearms regulation. With each incident, our sad legacy is reinforced that we are a nation known for the frequent massacre of one another, from sea to shining sea.
