Professional Wrestler Steve Austin Goes 'Stone Cold' on Homophobia

Stone Cold Steve Austin never was one to mince words. What he said about marriage equality would hit its critics like a ‘Stone Cold Stunner.’ – CC by Gage Skidmore

Full disclosure:  I absolutely love professional wrestling. No, I’m under no illusion that it is real, and I understand that many of you would question why a person would watch an admittedly fictional show. Well, you don’t seem to have a problem with The Walking Dead; is that just the right amount of realism for you? That, of course, is neither here nor there. In what’s sure to erupt in a redneck powder keg, the redneck-iest of all professional wrestlers, Stone Cold Steve Austin, has come out for gay marriage.

Stone Cold stands for gay sex marriage.

This is probably a good moment to mention that you probably shouldn’t watch the below video while at work. It’s got a bit of, we’ll call it stone cold, language in it. Steve was doing a podcast, and this is what popped out of the Texas Rattlesnake’s mouth:

“I’m for same sex marriage. I don’t give a shit if two guys, two gals, guy-gal, whatever it is, I believe that any human being in America, or any human being in the goddamn world, that wants to be married, and if it’s same-sex, more power to ’em.”

Stone Cold never was one to mince words. Of course, he went on to drop a full “Stone Cold Stunner” on those who may disagree with him.

Stone Cold calls out using religion as hate.

Only seconds after saying that he supported same sex marriage, Austin continued by calling out the religious right for using their beliefs as a catalyst for their bigotry.

“What also chaps my ass, some of these churches, have the high horse that they get on and say ‘we as a church do not believe in that.’ Which one of these motherfuckers talked to God, and God said that same-sex marriage was a no-can-do?”

Bigoted church goers and pastors who haven’t spoken with God, however, weren’t the only ones who got called out. Austin took on the full spectra of illogical and hypocritical beliefs that extremists who happen to attend church follow.

“OK, so two cats can’t get married if they want to get married, but then a guy can go murder 14 people, molest five kids, then go to fucking prison, and accept God and He’s going to let him into heaven? After the fact that he did all that shit? See that’s all horseshit to me, that don’t jive with me.”

Here’s the audio:

Keep in mind that the Texas Rattlesnake wasn’t just given that nickname as a gimmick to match up with his redneck persona. He literally is from Texas. Anyone who has seen or listened to him outside of the ring also knows that he’s a pretty hardcore redneck. As a southerner myself, hailing from the great state of Georgia, it’s good to know that not all southerners, not even the most hardcore, are homophobic bigots.

And that’s the bottom line… because Stone Cold said so.
