Another Right Wing Hypocrite Calls Teaching Marriage Equality “Child Abuse”

It’s time for yet another facepalm moment, this time brought to you by the right-wing religious nutjobs at Charisma.

In an article titled,”Parent Accused of Abusing Child to Promote Gay Agenda,” the author, Raynard Jackson, insists that MSNBC’s Krystal Ball should have her child removed from her custody by the government for what he describes as “child abuse.” Her crime? Talking to her child about marriage equality.

Jackson makes his misogynism evident in the way he describes Ball, as well as her MSNBC colleague, Melissa Perry, as a “feminist” who is “indoctrinat[ing] her daughter about homosexual marriage.” Apparently teaching your child about marriage equality and human rights regardless of sexual orientation makes you an “unfit parent.” If Jackson had his way, Ball would be relieved of her parental duties.

But the real gem in the whole issue is what else Jackson says; I include the entire quote for all to see:

“So, this is the type of world that Melissa Perry wants to create, one where someone like Ball could take another person’s child and brainwash them into believing that homosexual marriage is OK. What parent has this type of conversation with a 5-year-old? Is this what Perry means when she says, “Kids belong to whole communities”? They know they cannot win the argument with logic, so they must brainwash innocent children to perpetuate their radical liberalism. This is why we need to keep the government out of our lives to the greatest extent possible.”

Did I read that right? He calls for the government to come and take her child away because she is “morally” abusing her, then says the government should stay out of our lives? He says “we need to keep the government out of our lives,” while simultaneously saying that the government must rescue a child who’s parent is “abusing their own child on national TV to promote an insidious political agenda, which is totally disgusting.”

Then, of course, he goes into a ridiculous rant about how teaching a child to accept homosexuality as normal leads to all sorts of evils, such as fondling and sex play.

“Is it OK for Ball’s 5-year-old to begin experimenting with kissing boys and girls or touching her classmates in intimate places? I see what the problem is. You are having an adult conversation with a 5-year-old, so she may as well enjoy the fruits of being an adult. Why else would you be having this conversation with her?”

Why else have a conversation with her daughter about marriage equality? So she won’t grow up to be an ignorant, ridiculous, arrogant, crass, irrational, mindless, misogynistic, homophobic asshole like you. That’s why.

I can only speak for myself, but I have taught all my children to be open to the differences among us. Our family, with a mom, a dad, and five girls, is no better or worse than a family made up of two moms, two dads, one mom and no dad, one dad and no mom, etc. It’s not up to us to say what makes a family. And it’s certainly not up to someone as arrogant as Raynard Jackson to say that what I (or Krystal Ball or anyone else for that matter) teach my kids is “child abuse,” especially when there are people like the Westboro Baptist Church out there. Or perhaps Mr. Homophobic teaching-marriage-equality-is-child-abuse agrees with what they teach their kids?
