China’s Comments On Romney’s Israel Gaffe

Romney’s suggestion that the capital of Israel should be moved to Jerusalem angered more than just the Palestinians, it would seem. On Tuesday, the government news source in China, the Xinhua News Agency, said that Romney’s remarks regarding Jerusalem ignored the sensitive history of the city. The Palestinians claim the eastern sector of the city, which was annexed by Israel in 1967. The international community does not recognize this move, however, and Romney’s comments indicated a lack of either knowledge or cultural sensitivity regarding the controversial move.

The Republican presidential nominee also suggested that the U.S. embassy be moved to Jerusalem. The embassy currently is in Tel Aviv, and a move would indicate United States recognizance of the annexation of the eastern district–a political move that would be controversial and inflammatory at the least, and could possibly incite violence in the middle east.

Romney’s continued world campaign is downright dangerous. It appears he is more concerned with trying to earn votes from the ignorant at home that he has no concern for international issues. In fact, the Xinhua News Agency went on to say that, “Romney’s remarks totally neglect historical facts and are actually irresponsible if he just meant to appeal to voters at home.”

It appears he’s on a trip around the world to piss off every country possible. Lovely.
