Obama Gets Slammed Over Vacation – Republican Hypocrisy At Work

From the Republican Hypocrisy Alert Files: President Obama should not be taking a vacation while America is facing a crisis. The crisis we are facing is not an imminent attack from another nation. The crisis is not America defaulting, which was just barely averted. The crisis is not the National Debt levels, that solution was botched by Republicans and Tea Partiers. The crisis we are facing is unemployment. To combat this crisis, our federal government needs to legislate job bills which must be signed by the President. It’s of no matter that the governmental branch that writes legislation is Congress, who is on a five-week vacation. It’s of no matter that our previous president set the record number of vacation days while in the White House.

The Chicago Sun-Times reports:

“If you’re the President of the United States, and the nation is in crisis (we’re in a job crisis right now) then you shouldn’t be out vacationing,” Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor told WLS hosts, Don Wade and Roma. “Instead you should be focusing on getting the economy going again. And, yeah, go back to the office yourself, pull back members of Congress and focus on getting the job done.”

Donald Trump, appearing on Fox News earlier this week, complained, “the fact is, [Obama] takes more vacations than any human being I’ve ever seen.”

“They used to complain about George Bush, but I understand he’s already exceeded George Bush and we’re not even through the year. … I think it sends a very, very bad message,” said Trump.

But Mark Knoller of CBS, the unofficial keeper of presidential work schedules, reported that President George W. Bush had taken more time off than Obama at this point in his first term.

Obama’s upcoming vacation is his ninth vacation since taking office. Obama has spent all or part of 38 days on vacation away from the White House. He has also made 14 visits to Camp David spanning all or part of 32 days, for a total of 70 days, Knoller said.

Bush, at this point in his first term, had made 14 visits to his Texas ranch spanning all or part of 102 days, Knoller said. He also made 40 visits to Camp David spanning all or part of 123 days. His vacation total at this point in his presidency was all or part of 225 days away.

What an embarrassing example of Republican and Tea Partier’s failed math skills. Quick lesson: Bush’s 225 days of vacation > Obama’s 70 days of vacation. That little “>” symbol is the “greater than” sign. It is used to express a larger numerical value. For example, if (x>10) means “if X is more than 10”.

Have you ever wondered why these conservatives are anti-intellectual? If you denounce hard science like math, then their beliefs make sense. How else can one make the claim that lower taxes and greater spending results in “we don’t have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem”? Both sides of this equation can be affected; raise taxes and lower spending to reduce the national deficit. But when math is suspended, they argue that only spending can be cut. How else can one explain the Republican and Tea Party philosophy that lower taxes raised federal revenue? How else can one explain how Obama raised the deficit thus far more than Former President Bush did during his 8 years of his Presidency? It is nothing but a result of their failed math skills.

So it is okay that Congress left for a five-week vacation, neglecting to reauthorize the FAA. It is okay that Former President Bush took 225 days of vacation this far in his presidency. So long as it’s not the Democratic President.
