Republicans; You Lie! Tax Cuts For The Wealthy Do NOT Create Jobs!

Shortly before Christmas in 2010 the Republican Party held millions of Americans hostage. How did Republicans hold them hostage? Republicans refused to extend unemployment benefits to those millions of Americans, Americans who lost their jobs because of policies implemented by a Republican President. And what was the ransom? Unless the Democrats agreed to extend the Bush Tax cuts to the top 2% of the wealthiest Americans Republicans would refuse to extend unemployment benefits to the millions of poor and middle-class Americans who would have been cut off right before Christmas.

Republicans blamed uncertainty about the BushTax cuts being extended for the lack of job creation. They told us the wealthy were scared to create new jobs, because they were worried that their taxes would go up. Democrats agreed to pay the ransom, millions of poor and middle-class people continued to receive their unemployment checks in time for Christmas. The Republicans got what they wanted; an extended 3% tax cut for the “job creators” in our economy, people like Paris Hilton, Charlie Sheen, Lindsay Lohan, and their billionaire patrons; the Koch brothers.

That was December of 2010.

It’s now the middle of 2011. Last month in June only 18,000 jobs were created, less than the number that were created in May. Republicans told us that the ‘job creators’, the people with all the money, were just uncertain about their tax rates, but those were extended for another 2 years so why aren’t they using that money to create jobs yet?

Furthermore, those tax cuts were put into place in 2001, so why haven’t they been creating jobs since 2001? If those tax cuts spur job growth we should have seen an increase in jobs during the Bush Administration, but instead we saw a massive loss.

Members of congress make a salary of $174,000 a year, and almost all of them have additional income that puts them in the top income bracket, with people making over $250,000 a year. How many jobs did the Republican congressmen and women who make over $250,000 a year create with their extended Bush Tax Cuts? Did they create any? If they did, why aren’t they bragging about how they’re using their extra tax money to reinvest in the American economy and create jobs?

How long do Republicans expect the American people to keep believing that giving rich people more money will make them more generous with the jobs they create? How long do Republicans think the American people will continue to believe that the rich people are just hoarding all the jobs because they need lower taxes? How long until the American people wake up and realize that the rich in this country are just hoarding all their money, while poor and middle-class families suffer, and the Republican Party is doing everything they can to make it happen?

Republicans claim the deficits and debt matter, yet extending these tax cuts adds to the debt and deficit, so how does that make sense?

Multiple analyses show that tax rates have no direct correlation to GDP or job growth (Source 1, Source 2, and Source 3), yet Republicans tell us over and over and over that they do. I’m tired of hearing this myth being peddled by the Republican Party and their wannabe-millionaire supporters. To the GOP, their followers, and anyone else that tries to say that giving more money to rich people creates jobs;
